Delta Post Office, 360 Meeker Street.
Built in 1938. L/S/N The construction of the post office came at a critical time for the economy of Delta. The Public Works Administration project helped provide an economic boost to a township suffering from the effects of the Depression. Delta's Post Office is one of five Colorado Post Offices built in the Starved Classicism style and is the
only one of the five that falls into the Neo-Classicism subcategory. The two-story building is constructed of brick on a concrete foundation with a full basement. Notable features include: three large marble panels with the Art Deo inspired flora relief in the middle. Original iron lamps flank the front entrance. Marble detailing consists of molding band, parapet band and window sills. |

First Methodist Episcopal Church,
199 East 5th Street
Built in 1910. L/S/N This church is constructed on the Akron Plan in a Gothic Victorian Tudor style. The Akron Plan was a common floor plan for Methodist & Presbyterian churches just prior to the turn of the century. Use of this plan lasted about 25 years, at a time when the focus was on the minister
and the message. The parsonage was added north of the church in 1926 and is closest to the California bungalow style. After a fire gutted the church in 1993, restoration was completed in 1996. This church is now the Delta United Methodist Church. |

The Egyptian Theatre, 452 Main St.
Built in 1928. L/S/N The Egyptian Theatre is the only example of Second Egyptian Revival Architecture in Delta. It was constructed in 1928, at a cost of $75,000. The mass of this building is a smooth "California" stucco finish. Dominant architectural elements on both the exterior and the interior include two large sun symbol
reliefs, 16 Egyptian heads and 9 murals. It is one of only six Second Egyptian Revival theatres lefct in the U.S. During the Depression the theatre manager and seven local businessmen created the promotional "Bank Night" where gold, groceries and cash give-a-ways were held for moviegoers. It proved so successful that it was patented and sold to over 2,000 theatres in the U.s. which helped some survive through the depression. |

St. Michael's Catholic Church,
218 East 6th Street. Built in 1910. L. The presence of the Catholic Church in Delta started in 1889 with the Servite Fathers Monastery as a site for a sanitarium for rubercular priests. A church was started in 1908 and completed in 1910, at a cost of $10,000. The construction and completion of St. Michael's was a
bringing together in a common bond of the many Catholic families that had immigrated from Ireland, Poland, Russia and Catholic Germany to escape poverty, intolerable political situations or were lured to Colorado by gold and a better life. St. Michael's is an example of Gothic Revival style. It is constructed of bricks from Delta Brick and Tile. The steeple and bell were added in 1910-1912 and the bell originates from now extinct Ironton, CO. The rectory was built in 1910 and enlarged in 1949. |
