| The Model Block appears to be one of the first planned "subdivisions" in Delta. Originally swampland that was used as pasture, the site was next to the town skating rink. The Delta Township Company, comprised of influential citizens Millard Fairlamb, A.H. Stockham and W.B. Stockham, joined to build "The Model Block." Amenities included a fountain in the alley behind the first homes. Covenants restricted residents to keep gravel driveways free and the fountain accessible to all residents. No barns or privies were to be erected outside of dwellings. A sidewalk section at the north end of the alley commemorates the builders. The Model Block was centered around the 400 Block of Grand. | ||||||||
| 432 Grand Avenue Built in 1907-1908. L Currently a private residence. One of the first thirteen planned "model houses" of The Model Block. The repetition of the architectural style sets the area apart as a readily distinguishable block. The alley behind the first homes was named "Fountain Alley" for the artisan fountain loacated centrally in the alley for neighborhood use. |
